Will I see the neurologist on the day of the test?
In many cases yes. Nerve conduction studies and EMG are an extension of the clinical examination. These tests can vary considerably according to the clinical problem being investigated. In some cases it is helpful to take a history and perform an examination to decide on the best test algorithm for your particular problem. When appropriate the test report may include interpretation and recommendations for your GP. In this respect our practice differs from some other neurologists.
EEGs and vestibular function tests are performed by experienced neurophysiology technicians. It is the responsibility of your referring doctor to interpret the results and take any further action that may be necessary. If an opinion is necessary arrangements will be made for a further appointment.
What parking facilities are available?
There is parking with pedestrian and wheelchair access at the rear of the Gosford rooms. Parking is off Lindsey Street. There is 2 hour patrolled public parking at the Kanwal rooms.
When will results be available?
Most test results are available on the same day via secure email or fax. Some studies will take 3-5 days to report (e.g. ambulatory EEG, hearing and balance tests)
Are any tests bulk billed?
Bulk billing for routine diagnostic tests is offered to pensioners and health care card holders and in cases of financial hardship.
Complex nerve and muscle tests, if performed by the neurologist, balance tests and EEGs are privately billed but Medicare rebates apply. It is recommended that you register your bank account details with Medicare so that your rebate can be credited to your account automatically. Gap payment can also be accepted.
If your test is being paid for by Workers Compensation insurance or another third party a claim number and supporting documentation must be provided to us before you attend for the appointment.
